Enigma of matter...
To work on the expressiveness of matter, to transfigure it in order to make appear what is hidden.
In crevices of its texture, as suggestive interspaces, to catch a glimpse of what is elusive, impalpable, intangible.
It is in exploring this paradox that my approach takes place.

"The seduction of enigma"

Beyond possible beauty of features, a face seduces us through something elusive, indefinable, which we call charm.
The attractive quality which captivates us, stirs us, triggers desire, will remain unreductive to any attempt of rationalization and will stay enigmatic.
Painters, photographers, filmmakers and many other artists are fascinated by faces. They seek to sound out and to express this enigmatic part in others’ faces and herewith secretly wish to find there the key to their own enigma.

"Sensual dialectics"

With this arrangement of painting and photography I seek to suggest an ontological field spreading itself between immanence and transcendence.
To express this intermediary world I use oriental atmospheres where signs and archetypes combine with sensual dialectics between matter and light.

The concept of dualism is pervading in occidental philosophy but between immanence and transcendence I consider an ontological field that I try to suggest with my painting.
I seek to express this intermediary world with oriental atmospheres where sensuality connects with metaphysics in evanescent whirls of elation.

"Elated with forgotten metaphysics"

In this western world ruled by a compulsive way of consumption, dedicated to futility and mediocrity, I feel nostalgic about cultures celebrating the quest of wisdom.
I consider it crucial to return to the roots of our civilization searching forgotten messages, like metaphysics of nomadic people devoted to transcendence.
With my painting I seek to suggest this sensuality of the impalpable, this ontological elation.

"Metaphysical orgasms"

Symbolic structure conceived by kabbalists, the sephiroth tree institutes a scheme of connections between the human body and the world of archetypes.
What I call "metaphysical orgasm" would be a phenomenon of resonance between the sensual and the impalpable, like a flash of supraconsciousness resulting from a utilization of libido at a subtle level.
To illustrate this theme, I connected images of the "anima" (feminine unconscious of the man), whose variations are emphasized by photographic processes, and the sephiroth tree symbolizing the unvarying character of the collective unconscious.

"Glowing traces"

Fascinated by the phenomenon of appearance of alphabets and enthusiastic with psychoanalysis, I inscribe into matter writings of nomadic people of the Middle East which melt mysteriously in the dyed shades of the desert.
Sequences of writings, which can be received as vibratory codes, combine to symbols to be these "glowing traces" confronting the sight to universal archetypes.
I thus wish to express journeys through the collective unconscious where notions of time and space may disappear.

It is often said that the desert is the place of speech.
Indeed the same Hebrew root is used as the basis of both the verb "to speak" and the word "desert": "I speak" (medaber) and "desert" (midbar) are the same in their written form and different only when pronounced.
Fascinated by the phenomenon of the appearance of the alphabets – signs and symbols which confront the eyes with universal archetypes – I composed these "dialogues in the desert" in which the writings of some Middle Eastern nomadic people are blended with desert-inspired hues.
Thus I aim to express journeys through the collective unconscious where the notions of both time and space vanish.

At the heart of a dialectic which plays with matter and light, I make "metaphysical equations" appear.
Inspired from esoteric interpretations of Middle Eastern spiritualities, the signs and symbols I use confront the eye with universal archetypes.
I thus try to create magical and enigmatic atmospheres expressing journeys through the collective unconscious.
